My friends younger brother who goes to my old middle school handed me this article from the school news paper about Vocaloid. Kagamine fans prepare your medication.
Looking rather fabulous there Len.
*eye-twitch* Opinion in a printed article is not favourable, I would have discussed the unending debate of mirror/twin, not stated one side as fact. Perhaps "Mirror Twins" is the solution. "You're both wrong, because you're both right. The twins reflect and counterbalance each other like the twins of Gemini, reflections and twins at the same time."
>>216 I know, right? I have enough trouble dealing with stuff on the internet, the last thing I need is having to deal with this IRL.
God damn it. Besides the stupid "they're totally not twins guys!" thing (Just admit you like fictional incest already! It doesn't matter! No one cares! They're *fictional*!), there's also the awful plagiarized art. Even if this is only a silly middle school newspaper, their teachers should have had "DO NOT PLAGIARIZE" drilled into their heads. While the lack of integrity is not shocking to me anymore (there are plenty of people who continue do this kinda shit through high school and college), it still bothers me a lot. :|
>>226 I think it is okay since they put who the artist is in the corner of the picture. But I have never taken a news paper class so I'm not sure if it is different than for a term paper.
>>234 The "artist" being credited is also a co-writer of the article. Meanwhile, here is the image s/he stole the pose from.
Aside from the already mentioned mistakes, there's also the fact that the article overuses exclamation points. The authors were clearly overexcited.
Okay, this is probably why the world will end in 2012. Kaganmine fans will destroy everything to prove that they ARE TWINS! Nice to serkiSprgqc69mFuEFwX3C/EW8Q=
>>239 Not until Touhou becomes mainstream in America. And no, that one CNN video doesn't count.
>>240 That's good, cause you ask yourself, would really want this stuff to be mainstream?
>>242 Even if I wanted it to, I doubt it would. Remember, even in Japan Vocaloid and Touhou are apparently considered rather "underground" [though I think the latter is much more bigger]. Also, there's also the fact that both fandoms are part of the doujin scene, which is powered by fans. The only way I can see Touhou and the like becoming mainstream worldwide is by a huge push by some major corporation, and I think I don't have to describe how terrible that will turn out. Well, I guess in Vocaloid's case it was actually more of a benefit... Not to mention with the internet and all, the basic concept of mainstream is starting to change.
>>242 Touhou: Meh. But Vocaloids: Yes. A definite yes.
>>245 You sure? It'll mean more "OMG! ThEY'RE NOT TWINZ!" more "I hate Miku's personality!" and more "LEN IS MINE *glomps*" We have too much of that already.
>>246 The upside is that we will also end up getting even more awesome creators. They will be outnumbered by the "not twins" camp but I can totally ignore that if it means we'll be getting some more good English (or some other languages. Ever since fye's amazing cover of Love is War, I've been dying to hear it done in Russian.) covers of Vocaloid songs. Getting some more good composers and PV artists would also be wonderful.
From the way you talk I expected to hear Love Is War sung in English and then it's somebody singing in Japanese with an American accent. Hmm.
>>248 Fye? She's Russian. She's also only 14. Sure there are some minor pronunciation issues but (in my opinion) it's completely overshadowed by the fact that she has a stunning voice (see also: her cover of Last Night, Good Night). Seeing as how she has the second most Mylisted Love is War cover on NND, others agree about her voice being good. If Vocaloids became more mainstream it might mean we could get some more non-Japanese people covering Vocaloid songs in Japanese. It's not a bad thing since there are plenty of talented people from around the world (and there are a number of good non-Japanese singers in NND, SquaDus is from Israel and Kuripurin is from S.Korea) and it's always good to get more talented people singing Vocaloid songs (once again, in my opinion). Although what really I'm hoping for is more people covering Vocaloid songs in their own native language.
in Other news, G.W. thinks that the Mac is awesome. I think G.W is stupid.
>>239 already there, talk to bill O'Riley about that one...
>>282 That didn't really count though.
This is why the news should never get their hands on Vocaloid... I see a lot of false information in there. Leon & Lola were the first Vocaloids released. Then Miriam, then Meiko, and then Kaito. Sweet Ann was the first Vocaloid 2, then Miku. Rin & Len can be viewed as whatever the the fans want them to be. Twins, lovers, or mirror reflections.
>>299 To be fair, it was a middle school news paper, so it's not exactly the best source. Though to be honest I doubt a legit newspaper article about the phenomena would be better.
>>214 There are so many errors with this article...
...The reason why I'm glad there are no school newspapers here.
Proofreader should be smart enough to reject this. I just finished reading 30% of it and I [state random overreaction here...]
